This is a twelve-month, term (non-tenure track) faculty appointment designed as a continuing position, beginning no later than June 1, 2015 (earlier start date preferred), in preparation of the initiation of the University’s new Physician Assistant Studies program, slated to start, with appropriate approvals, in January 2016. Rank will be commensurate with academic credentials and experience; it can convert to a tenure-track position by mutual agreement upon successful initiation of the program. Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment and capacity for academic leadership, teaching excellence, student mentorship, scholarly and professional engagement, and campus citizenship. Qualified applicants must be either a Physician Assistant with an appropriate master’s degree and current NCCPA certification, or a physician with current licensure as an allopathic or osteopathic physician in North Carolina and certified by an ABMS- or AOA-approved specialty board.  A terminal academic degree in a related field is a plus. Individuals should have a minimum of three years of medical experience as well as experience relevant to educational settings with particular emphasis on medical education. Previous work in the development and/or support of physician assistant programs is highly desirable.  The University is particularly interested in an individual who has clinical expertise, a commitment to collaborative work, the ability to manage the educational components of the program, and familiarity with the accreditation process and requirements. The Didactic Director will be an individual capable of implementing a vibrant program that reflects the mission of the University and the program. This individual will have responsibility for the oversight of all didactic academic activities including development of program curriculum in accordance with ARC-PA requirements, assistance with preparation for program accreditation, and clinical site development. Additional responsibilities will include involvement with admissions, advising students, and teaching. S/he will report to the Director/School Chair of the PA program.
