The Nutrition Support Program at the
Millstein Hospital, Columbia University Medical Center, seeks a physician
assistant to join the consultation service for our busy Adult Nutrition
Support Service. The individual will see inpatients daily, independently
and under the supervision of the Director. The PA will be an important
part of the planned development of a new outpatient practice. She/he will
be responsible for collaborative development of nutrition support plans
for individual patients as well as having input into institutional policy,
and will be expected to be able to represent the Program in quality and
policy meetings on an institutional level. They will interact with and
eventually take on some of the responsibility for teaching the M.D.
Nutrition Fellows as well as those rotating on the service, and will
be accountable for accurate billing and coding as well as quality data
collection. Collaborative discussions with the Clinical Nutritionists and
the consulting services' house staff will be a significant component of
the day. Once clinical responsibilities are completed efficiently, the
physician assistant will become an integral part of the growing clinical
research program and should become part of the team responsible for all
aspects from recruitment to data collection. Opportunities for developing
leadership responsibilities, teaching, and academic advancement depend
only on the motivation of the individual.
Advanced training in nutrition (e.g. RD, masters degree, internship,
etc.) or experience with nutrition support consultation desired. Must be
an excellent communicator, adept at finding win-win and out-of-the-box
compromises, and must enjoy working hard and collaboratively with multiple
disciplines. BCLS and ACLS certification required.
