for interview expenses which is, that should you be offered and accept
a full time job with our company will reimburse your interview expenses.")
Failing to verify mutual expectations of how candidate travel expenses
are handled can lead to some very disappointing relationships.

Industry standard in third party situations (where there is an employer,
a candidate and a recruiter) is that the employer always pays for the site
visit. This is true about 98% of the time. In cases where this is not true,
we stress such to a candidate prior to the interview to make sure they
are aware there will be an expense to them.
At the very least, an employer should agree to split expenses with a
candidate. I advise candidates that if an employer will not at least share
expenses with them to view this as a warning sign and think seriously whether
they would want to work for an employer who is that cheap, or that short
on funds. That being said, there are always exceptions and each situation
should be evaluated on a case by case basis. In all cases interviewing
costs, and who bears them should be established up front before any interviewing
occurs.
